The Course

The run comprises two laps of an undulating course within the confines of Knole Park. The course route is on a sandstone base which drains well, but, depending on the weather, can be a little muddy in parts.  We regret that this course is not suitable for wheelchair competitors.

The first third of each lap is on a grass track up a valley known as The Ride. The track is generally even but rises gently along its whole length. The last two hundred metres or so, at the end of the valley are up a slowly increasing slope.

At the top of the slope, and for the next third of the lap, the route picks up the park internal road system and follows what is called The Chestnut Walk, which is tarmac with some concrete patching and loose pockets. This section is undulating, but the general trend is gently downhill. It is possible to choose to run on the grass at the side of the road for most of this section.

The course then continues, through woodland, along a resurfaced road which has a fine gravely finish. This is also undulating but also has a gentle downward trend for most of the way. This road continues for about half the last third of the lap.

The final part of each lap is on a sandy, grassy track which runs parallel to the garden wall of Knole House. The track is fairly level and easy running. The track then turns sharply downhill for the last two hundred metres.

At the bottom of the hill, after the second lap, the course turns right along a flat section of the grassy valley floor for two or three hundred metres to the finish.

Please note that the Race Committee, whilst believing the above notes to be a fair description of the course, take no responsibility for their accuracy. Runners with any doubts as to the suitability of the course are advised to visit and view the course themselves in advance of their entry.
